Senator Ollie Crowe today speech! I spoke today in Seanad Éireann about what happens when we come out of level 5 in December. It’s important to get the balance right. Data makes it clear that house parties were a major issue before.

They should be discouraged. 72% of all clusters were traced to private settings. Not all were house parties.

But many likely were. If there are no house parties or private parties, as seen before, there will be fewer cases of Covid-19 across the country.

But we need to be realistic too about what people will accept. Gyms and swimming pools should be reopened.

They are essential for people’s well-being and mental health. Bars and restaurants should also be opened. People are going to socialize in December, especially at Xmas, it’s not realistic to expect people not to.

These are controlling settings where social distancing can implement, and tracing will be done, etc. So, in short, we have to open places which are useful for people’s wellbeing.

As if we don’t do these people will get anxiety issues and there will be a different situation across the country.

We can do this and continue to emphasize the need for all of us to follow all safety measures. Reopening pubs and restaurants.

They are far safer places for people to have a drink than house parties or gathering at Spanish Arch.

All Pubs, All inside and all with capacity limits based on engineered solutions for safe service to our communities, or else an avalanche of cases from unpoliced able house parties and raves like the recent Autumnal fall.

It’s hard to argue against facts and logic.

We have a lot of data and scientific information to allow for informed decision making and recommendations that will enable us to live and work with this virus.
